Eligibility

Q:Is having a criminal record a disqualifier for e-Gate?

A:e-Gate is a risk-based approach to facilitate the entry of pre-approved travelers.
  Applicants may not qualify for e-Gate participation if they:

  1. Provide false or incomplete information on the application;
  2. Have been convicted of any criminal offense or have pending criminal charges, including outstanding warrants;
  3. Have been found in violation of any customs, immigration or agriculture regulations or laws in any country;
  4. Are subjects of an investigation by any central or local law enforcement agency;
  5. Are inadmissible under Taiwan immigration regulations; or if they
  6. Cannot satisfy NIA of their low-risk status or meet other requirements.

Q:I am a U.S. citizen, but I am not a GE member, can I participate in e-Gate?

A:Yes, If you are a resident or U.S. diplomat in Taiwan, aged 14 or above and at least 140 cm tall, you are eligible to participate in e-Gate for free. When applying for your membership, you must present a valid U.S. passport and one of the following documents:

  1. Alien Resident Certificate/Alien Permanent Resident Certificate with multiple re-entry permit.
  2. Foeign diplomat or staff of international organizations holding a Diplomatic Identification Card issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan.

Q:Are all Kinds of Taiwan visa holders eligible for participation in e-Gate?

A:
  1. U.S. passport holders who have been granted visa-free entry or visitor visa can participate in e-Gate/GE program.
  2. For U.S. passport holders with Alien Resident Visas, please register for e-Gate with free charge after obtaining Alien Resident Certificates.

Enrollment

Q:Can I change my password once it’s been created?

A:Yes, you can log into e-Gate Enrollment System to change your password.

Q:I have already submitted my application for review. How do I correct a mistake on my application?

A:Any incorrect personal information may cause denial of your application and NIA will not refund your application fee. Once you have submitted your application online, you cannot make any changes to it. Please make sure all your information is correct before submitting your application.

Payment

Q:What forms of payment does e-Gate Enrollment System accept?

A: e-Gate Enrollment System will only accept credit card payment.

Q:What types of credit cards are accepted?

A:Visa, MasterCard and JCB.

Q:Is my payment information retained?

A:When you make a payment through e-Gate Enrollment System, you are giving us permission to submit the necessary information to processing vendor to complete the transaction. NIA does not retain your credit card information in our databases.

Interview

Q:What do I need to bring for my interview?

A:Please bring your valid U.S. passport and GE/SENTRI/NEXUS card for interview.

Q:Can I reschedule or cancel an appointment?

A:Yes, you can reschedule or cancel your appointment on e-Gate Enrollment System.

Q:How soon should I complete my interview?

A:You have to complete the interview within 180 days from the date you receive NIA approval letter.

Membership Card

Q:My application is approved, will I obtain a membership card from NIA?

A:No, NIA will not issue a membership card. You can log into e-Gate account to check your membership information.

Update Passport Information

Q:My passport is renewed, how can I update my passport information?

A:You have to log into your GOES account to update your passport information two weeks before using the new passport to pass through e-Gate. NIA will then receive your latest passport information from CBP.

Renew Membership

Q:Will I need to be interviewed again when I renew my membership?

A:No, you don’t have to be interviewed again.

Arrival Card

Q:After I pass the interview and acquire e-Gate membership, do I still need to fill out the arrival card for using e-Gate?

A:You will still need to complete the Arrival Card online (https://oa1.immigration.gov.tw/nia_acard/acardAddAction.action) before using e-Gate for every visit to Taiwan. (Applicant failing to complete Online Arrival Card has to go through manual counter for passport inspection.)

Children and Travel Companions

Q:Do my e-Gate benefits extend to my travel companion(s) (children, spouse or co-traveler) who has/have not participated in the e-Gate program?

A:e-Gate benefits are for members only and cannot be extended to others.

Q:Are children eligible to enroll in e-Gate?

A:e-Gate applicants must be aged 14 and above and at least 140 cm tall. For those who are under 20 years old are required to have parental or legal guardianship permission.
